After they closed in the main ” Ramona Room “showroom, at the Last Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas, the Mary Kaye Trio was followed by Ronald Regan’s act. Hotel Owner, Jake Kozloff wanted to keep the Trio appearing at the Frontier, so Jake & Billy Burton made the decision to hold the Trio over. From 1am until 6am the “Dusk ’til Dawn” crowd partied in “Standing Room Only” for three shows nightly at the Gay 90’s Lounge for 20 weeks straight, while the Trio expanded in size with Frank Hudek on Drums and Hank Shank on Piano. The success of the live lounge show the second night attracted Sinatra, other entertainers, fans & high rollers. Entertainment Lounges spread throughout the city 3 days later.
One of the most lucrative contracts in Show business was signed between the Mary Kaye Trio and the New Frontier Hotel two years later when they opened the 300 seating ” Cloud Nine Room” lounge. The Trio continued to work the Las Vegas Hotels with contracts starting at $20,000 a week in the early 50’s. The El Rancho, Sahara, and the Tropicana bookings in Las Vegas were home for the Trio, between engagements that took them all over the world. Some of the Television specials which they appeared in were, Milton Berle, Gary Moore, Perry Como, Pat Boone, Dinah Shore, Kate Smith appearing with special guests: John Wayne, Joan Davis, Carol Burnett, Gene Barry, Red Skelton, and many more.
